ITT PILATES (Integrated Teacher Training) is a comprehensive Pilates Mat and Reformer Teacher Training Program using the exercises developed by Joseph Pilates to understand and appreciate movement with sound biomechanics. Jean Sullivan, an internationally known Master Pilates Instructor, will teach you the underlying principles and goals of each exercise with a thorough understanding of anatomy and biomechanics, giving you a solid foundation on which to grow and flourish as a competent instructor. Through this program, you will learn to see, sense, and create change with an integrative approach to corrective exercise.

ITT PILATES was founded in 2003 by four Pilates Master Trainers - Jean Sullivan, Madeline Black, Joerg Chabowski, and Debra Schubert. Their desire was to build a Pilates Teacher Training Program that would provide students with a solid core of knowledge, tools to become an excellent instructor, and wisdom from their professional experience. With their decades of expertise in the Pilates and Movement field, ITT Pilates is proud to be the leading Pilates Teacher Training Program.

What is Included

  • Anatomy & Core Dynamics is a full-day workshop, designed to prepare you for an in-depth look at anatomy and how it relates to movement.

    The Anatomy & Core Dynamics Course will give you a solid foundation upon which to build your knowledge as a Pilates, GYROTONIC®, Yoga, or Fitness instructor. This course will cover the basic anatomy and core activation that every movement instructor needs to know.

    Learning how your body is designed to move will enhance your personal movement practice and your work as a movement instructor.

    We will cover the bones, joints, and muscles used in Pilates and other exercises. We will discuss muscular imbalances we often see in different postures and how to address them. We will explore the muscles that make up our "core" and experience them in practice labs.

  • Learn the fundamentals of Pilates in our Mat Instructor Training Program and then build on it! Learn how to instruct full body exercises on the Reformer for dynamic movement and motor control. The Reformer, developed by Joseph Pilates, is a versatile piece of equipment for a wide variety of applications from fitness to rehabilitation.

    ITT Pilates combined Mat & Reformer Program gives you the best of both worlds. You learn the Level 1 Pilates Mat Repertoire and the Full Reformer repertoire in one training. Design individual sessions or group classes using a full spectrum of exercises to develop functional, efficient movement patterns in your clients. ITT Pilates gives you the skills and tools to see, sense, and create change in your client’s bodies.

  • Students of the ITT Pilates Training at Movement Bottega will have exclusive access to guided Practice Labs with Missoni Lanza to help integrate the material during and after the 3 weekend intensive. Students will have the ability to practice on the equipment, review material, or seek out additional guidance and assistance from Missoni during these hours.

    Practice hours will be available on select evenings during the week, and select weekends after the 3 weekend intensive.

    Guided Practice Labs will end after the initial scheduled certification test out date with Jean Sullivan.

    Foundation Training
    6 days (courses Anatomy & Core Dynamics with Essential Exercises)

    * 1 hour lunch break, 6 hours of teaching time

    Day 1: Basic Anatomy Review of the skeletal system, the spine and all trunk muscles
    Day 2: Essential Exercises that focus on Core Activation
    Day 3: Essential Exercises that focus on Spinal mobility
    Day 4: Essential Exercises on the Spine and Hip extension with anatomy of the Pelvis and hip joints
    Day 5: Essential Exercises on Shoulder mobility with anatomy of the shoulder girdle
    Day 6: Essential Exercises on hip mobility with trunk stabilization with review of anatomy

    Reformer Training with Mat Exercises
    6 days

    1 hour lunch break, 6 hours of teaching time

    Day 1: Reformer foot work and Bridge series with Anatomy of lower leg and feet
    Day 2: Deep dive into Pilates Reformer & Mat Repertoire
    Day 3: Deep Dive into Pilates Reformer & Mat Repertoire
    Day 4: Reformer shoulder girdle exercises, Level 1
    Day 5: Reformer Trunk Stability and spinal extension exercises
    Day 6: Reformer shoulder girdle exercises, Level 2

    12 days total of intensive, hands-on-training with Jean Sullivan.

  • Students are required to fulfill hours of self-practice, teaching practice and observation while they are going through the training. These hours help integrate the material into their body, mind and teaching. We recommend students begin working on their hours as soon as they start the program.

    Self-Practice Hours: 30 Hours
    Students may count any Mat classes, Reformer classes or Pilates private sessions taken during the ITT PILATES Training Program. In addition, developing a personal practice is a great way to commit to one’s own fitness and find inspiring cues.

    Teaching Practice Hours: 30 Hours
    Students are responsible for finding volunteers to work with for their teaching practice hours. These hours can start accumulating after the first weekend course. Students are able to practice at Movement Bottega or another fully equipped studio if distance is an issue.

    Observation Hours: Students may watch experienced, certified Pilates instructors teaching privates or group classes. Observation is a great way to learn how instructors cue (verbal, tactile and imagery), how they sequence the exercises, and work with client’s issues. We will provide a pre-approved list of Instructors and Studios online and in surrounding areas for you to obtain your observation hours.

    Apprentice Teaching Hours: 3 Hours
    Students complete Apprentice Teaching Hours, under the guidance of an ITT PILATES Educator, while participating Mat & Reformer Training Program. These sessions will be individually scheduled. The student will teach a 60 minute private session to one of their volunteer’s, while an ITT PILATES Educator gives them immediate feedback and assistance.

    Courses are scheduled on weekends, with Teaching Labs scheduled on weeknights and weekends. Plan on spending a minimum of 5-10 hours per week, in addition to the weekend intensives, in order to practice the material and complete the required hours for the Final exam. Movement Bottega is available during the weekends and weekdays on select days and times, at no additional cost, to help you fulfill your hours of self-practice and teaching practice.

    All required hours must be completed within 6 months at the latest to receive your certificate.

    If you have some training through another organization, we are happy to consider credit into our Bridge Program. This is done on an individual basis so please contact us if you are interested.

MEET YOUR EDUCATORS

 

ABOUT JEAN SULLIVAN
Founder & Director of ITT Pilates & Body of Work Studio (San Francisco, CA)

Known internationally as a Master Pilates instructor and movement educator, Jean has been teaching Pilates since 1994 and certifying instructors since 1998. Jean has been a guest speaker at conferences throughout the US and travels internationally to train instructors in the ITT PILATES Certification Programs. Jean expanded her movement knowledge with the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® in 1999. She is also certified as an ACE personal trainer, WKC Kettlebell instructor, SFMA provider and in the GYROTONIC® specialized equipment. Jean studied in corrective exercise and therapeutic applications with Jean-Claude West, Anna Schmitz, Marika Molnar, Liz Henry, and Linda-Joy Lee. She worked at St Francis Hospital's Dance Medicine department and developed Pilates-based rehabilitation programs for Bay Area chiropractors.

Jean draws on her extensive knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics and neuromuscular re-education, with her experience as a professional dancer and flying trapeze artist, for an interdisciplinary approach to her teaching. She enjoys working with people of all ages and movement abilities. Jean specializes in helping clients with scoliosis, spinal injuries, back and hip pain, shoulder and neck injuries, pregnancy and postnatal exercise, sports related injuries.

 

ABOUT MISSONI LANZA
Founder & Owner of Movement Bottega (Palm Desert, CA)

With over a decade of experience guiding clients out of pain and improving performance goals for professional tennis players, golfers, and polo players, Missoni Lanza is a master in her field. She is sought-out for her sharp eye, deep understanding of the human body, and transformative results for her clients. Her mission is to provide you with the tools to connect you to your body’s natural intelligence and help you develop a sustainable practice to obtain optimal health and well-being.

Missoni integrates the Madeline Black Method, Pilates, Fascial Release techniques, and other movement modalities to expertly guide clients on their unique pathway to improved body awareness and movement. Her passion for the healing arts stemmed from her own journey recovering from a head-on collision when she was eighteen. Since receiving her Pilates Certification in 2011, Missoni has worked alongside Physical Therapists, Spine Specialists, and provided fitness and wellness education to schools throughout the Coachella Valley.

In 2020, Missoni Lanza was invited to assist Madeline Black with her Online Immersive Training Programs. She assisted Madeline Black, an internationally known leader in movement and fitness, in teaching the Madeline Black Method to experienced Movement Professionals and Therapists.

Most recently, Missoni has began collaborating with boutique hotels and high end resorts to share her highly acclaimed movement classes. Currently, she is in the process of expanding her team at her boutique studio, Movement Bottega, in Palm Desert, CA along with launching her online platform.
